the greatest service a parent can offer is not to inhibit their child’s constructive interests. protect against savage & devastating let-downs if possible; but mostly encourage, support, & get out of the way of even the craziest of notions. crazy is genius, and trying is learning. it’s called ambition, it’s called confidence, it’s called making a difference of the greatest kind. memorization & force-fit are all too often boring & mediocrity boosters. teaching the fundamentals and an ability to navigate society at large, by all means, but conformity should not be projected as the default. foster the inability to see a ceiling and instill the tenacity to follow-thru, and your service to a young person is truly immeasurable.
